Vernon Akins
General Manager
-
Vernon Akins has been in facility and personnel management for over 25 years and has spent the last 10 years with HeartShare Training Services Inc. His background includes extensive work in Healthcare Security Administration, Public Safety Administration, Corporate Investigation Management and Healthcare Training Management.
Vernon holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Youngstown State University. His experience and training allow him to manage over 150 instructors who train over 13,000 students every year.
Additionally, Vernon manages all daily operations, strategic planning, and has been recognized for his outstanding management and leadership qualities. Vernon is also closely involved with accounting, class coordination, marketing research, quality assurance and client relations.

Christi Montellato
Education Director, Training Center Coordinator
Christi Montellato worked as an ambulance-based Paramedic in three counties of the Bay Area. Her experience treating critically injured or ill persons gives her the ability to teach continuing education courses to active healthcare professionals. Christi is responsible for CE issuance, instructor training and educational quality improvement.
Christi is a current faculty member for the American Heart Association and a committee member for the National Association of EMS educators. In addition, she is a nationally accredited Emergency Medical Services educator, published author, facilitator, curricula editor, private tutor and professional speaker.

Njoki Karoki
BLS Course Director, BLS Instructor
Njoki has been teaching with HeartShare Training Services Inc., for over 8 years. Njoki has a Bachelor of Science degree from San Jose State University. For the last several years Njoki has managed the BLS division of the company, acting as Course Director for that discipline.
Njoki is responsible for the training and scheduling of the BLS Instructors. In addition she is responsible for making sure all the BLS Instructors are up to date with the new materials and guidelines from the American Heart Association. Njoki's experience and skills as an educator make her an integral part of the HeartShare staff.

Jane Folena RN, BSN
NRP and STABLE Program Director
Jane Folena is a graduate of the University of San Francisco School of Nursing. Jane has over 30 years of clinical experience as a staff nurse and Clinical Educator in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. As a clinical educator, Jane was responsible for the development and implementation of NICU training programs, NICU Critical Events Training and staff’s continued education. Jane is an American Heart Association BLS instructor, S.T.A.B.L.E. lead instructor and has been a Regional NRP instructor since 1997. Jane enjoys training healthcare providers and teaching infant care to parents through Mission College Community Education.

John Franz
Course Director, Full-time Instructor
John Franz has over thirty years experience as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. He holds a Nursing diploma from St. Marks Hospital School of Nursing where he graduated with honors, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Healthcare Education from University of Utah and a Certificate of Anesthesiology from the Army Nurse Corp. After many years of clinical experience he began his teaching career. John is a certified American Heart Association ACLS and PALS Instructor. His diversified education and career experience make him a realistic and well-rounded educator. John also contributes to a committee of Directors responsible for making curricula and course decisions.

Tim Fagin
Faculty, Full-time Instructor
Tim Fagin has been teaching with HeartShare Training Services, Inc. for over 5 years. Prior to working at HeartShare Training Services Inc., he acted as a field Paramedic for an ALS ambulance service. Tim holds American Heart Association Instructor Certifications in ACLS, PALS and BLS. Tim has also participated in the creation of our EKG and Pharmacology course, and is currently the Lead Instructor in that discipline. Tim is directly involved in committee decisions and his teaching experience makes him a valuable resource for other Instructors. He teaches fulltime and frequently acts as Lead Instructor for ACLS and PALS courses.

Ben VanParis
North Bay Training Site Lead Instructor
Ben Van Paris RRT-NPS has been in the healthcare field over 30 years and has 27 years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Ben holds a certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Neonatal Pediatric Specialist. In addition, Ben is an American Heart Association ACLS, PALS and BLS instructor and is also certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics as a NRP instructor.

John Yap
North Bay Training Site Lead Instructor
John Yap has 20 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He has always enjoyed teaching. John is a certified American Heart Association instructor for ACLS, BLS and PALS. He recently joined the team at HeartShare Training Services Inc. and brings his knowledge and enthusiasm for teaching with him.

Administrative Specialist
Mary Wiens has been with HeartShare Training Services Inc. for almost 15 years. Her current responsibilities include purchasing and distribution, inventory, registrations and payroll. Her combined experience and skills make her an invaluable asset to the HeartShare team. Mary quite frequently goes above and beyond to meet the needs of each individual student.

Amanda Fletcher
Account Specialist
Amanda Fletcher has been with HeartShare Training Services Inc. for over six years in the role of Administrative Specialist. Her current responsibilities include registrations, managing phones, client relations, sales and finalization of class rosters. Amanda is quite frequently the smiling face on the opposite end of your phone calls.
